The crew over at The Dad Network are doing an online campaign to get Dads around the world to get their groove on and help raise money for UNICEF UK to help underprivileged children. As a semi-retired rapdancefighter (also known as a bboy/breaker/breakdancer), I thought it was a great excuse to dust off the old dancing shoes for a good cause.
The campaign is simple:
- Dance with or without the children.
- Film yourself
- Upload it to social media using the hashtag #dothedaddance
- Nominate 2 or 3 of your dad friends to do the same
- Donate £2 to UNICEF using the unique text code or by visiting: justgiving.com/dothedaddance
My daughter wasn’t with me this morning, which was probably a good thing because a) she probably would have wandered into the line of fire at some point and b) she would have undoubtedly shown me up with her cuteness + awesomeness combo (and nothing beats kid props in a breaking battle :-p).
I chose ‘Uptown Funk’ by Mark Ronson ft. Bruno Mars because she loves this song (she calls it ‘Uptown Funky One) and we love dancing to it, so it was the obvious choice (plus it was a bit easier to break to than “Let It Go” from the Frozen movie soundtrack…).
So come on Dads, get involved, bust out your best moves and nominate more Dads to spread the word for this great cause!
